Charles I gold Crown Group A, first bust initial mark lis UNC DETAILS

Charles I (1625-49),gold Crown of Five Shillings, Tower Mint, group A, first crowned bust in ruff left, class I, value behind, beaded circles and legend surrounding, initial mark lis (1625) both sides, CAROLVS D'. G' MA. BRI FR'. ET. HI'. REX,rev.wide crowned quartered shield of arms, beaded circles and legend surrounding without stops, CVLTORES SVI DEVS PROTEGIT, weight 2.29g (cf. Schneider 222; cf. Brooker 183; N.2179; S.2709).Lightly toned, once cleaned though some residual dirt in legends, otherwise very fine, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as UNC details cleaned.

NGC certification 5900710-007.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on obverse "Charles by the grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland," and on the reverse "God protects his worshippers." These gold coins are struck in 22 carat "crown" gold.

The first type of the reign totalled a crown gold output of over £600,000 but this figure was combined with the large final coinage of James I.
