Charles I Briot Halfgroat
Charles I (1625-49), silver first milled issue Halfgroat, by Nicholas Briot, crowned bust left, .B. below for Briot, value .II. behind head with lozenge stops, linear inner and beaded outer border with legend surrounding, initial mark lozenge, .CAROLVS. D: G. MAG. BRIT. FR. ET. HIB. R, rev. long cross with lyre type ends over quartered shield of arms, legend with borders surrounding, IVSTIT IA.THR ONVM. FIRMAT. weight 0.85g (Brooker 721; N.2302; S.2856). Attractively toned, one rim imperfection, one light crease now flattened, otherwise good very fine.
The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles, by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland." and on the reverse as "Justice strengthens the throne."
