Charles I 1644 Exeter Shilling

Charles I (1625-49), silver Shilling, Exeter Mint, 1644, crowned bust left, value XII in field behind, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding both sides, initial mark rose, CAROLVS. D. G. MA. BR. FR. ET. HI. REX, rev. oval quartered shield of arms, date at end of legend, CHRISTO. AVSPICE. REGNO 1644, weight 5.90g (Brooker 1064; N.2575; S.3083). A little weakly struck in the legends as usual for this issue, slightly double struck with a good portrait, toned, almost extremely fine.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland"; and on the reverse "I reign under the auspice of Christ."
