Charles I (1625-49), silver Pound of Twenty Shillings, Shrewsbury Mint, 1642, King on horseback left, walking over arms and militaria, Shrewsbury style plumes in crown to upper right, flowing scarf of King behind, beaded circles and legend surrounding, initial mark obscured pellets, CAROLVS: D: G: MAG: BRITAN: FR: ET: HIB: REX., rev. two line Latin motto at centre, RELIG: PROT: LEG: / ANGL: LIBER: PAR, three Shrewsbury style plumes over value of XX above, spread date below, beaded circles and legend surrounding, legend commences at left, initial mark five pellets :.: EXVRGAT. DEVS. DISSIPENTVR. INIMICI, weight 120g, (Hawkins 4; Morrison A4; Brooker 796; North 2361; S.2917). Toned with two rim splits as usually seen with these coins the largest hammered silver coins ever struck, some light wear to high points, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as XF45.

NGC certification 8222411-001. Currently as of May 2025 this coin is the joint finest graded at NGC and only one step behind the finest graded example at PCGS.

The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles, by the grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland." On the reverse the outer legend translates as "Let God arise and let His enemies be scattered." As Psalm from the Bible (Psalm 68.1). The motto across the centre translates as "The religion of the Protestants, the laws of England, the liberty of Parliament."
