Canute (1016-35),silver Penny, Quatrefoil type (c.1017-25), Lincoln Mint, Moneyer Iustein, crowned and draped bust left within quatrefoil, cross in front, legend surrounding commences at bottom, +CNVT REX ΛNGLORV:rev.pellet at centre of voided long cross, over quatrefoil with pellet cusps, legend surrounding, +IVSTΛN MO LINC, with the NC ligatured, weight 0.99g (SCBI 14 [Copenhagen], 1654-55; BMC type VIII; N.781; S.1157).Rich tone, balanced in its detail both sides with a strong portrait, rare with the additional cross in front of bust. Good very fine and rare.
The legends translate as "Canute King of the English" on obverse and on the reverse "Iustein of Lincoln."
