The Latin legends translate as "Canute King of the English" on obverse and on the reverse "Wulfsi of Chester."
This coin is of the local Chester style within its later phase, as recorded by Blackburn and Lyon in their article "Regional Die Production in Cnut's Quatrefoil Issue." See pages 234-35. The later dies, characteristically have smaller face in the portraits, at times tall and thin, in other cases squatter and or more compressed on the drapery.
