Australia, Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1870, Sydney Mint, second young head left with wreath of banksia in hair, date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA D: G: BRITANNIAR: REG: F: D:, rev. AUSTRALIA across centre, crown above within tied laurel wreath, SYDNEY MINT above, denomination ONE SOVEREIGN below, edge milled (Bentley 653; McD 117; Marsh 375; Fr. 10). Toned with nicks and bagmarks in fields, some residual lustre around legend, graded by NGC as AU50.

Calendar year mintage 1,220,000.

The Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the Grace of God, Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
