Anne 1713 Guinea, 3rd bust, MS64, 2nd finest, ex Reed
Anne (1702-14), gold Guinea, 1713, Post-Union, third draped bust left, legend surrounding, ANNA.DEI. GRATIA., toothed border around rim both sides, rev. Post-Union crowned cruciform shields, sceptres in angles, garter star at centre, date either side of top crown, .MAG BRI. FR ET. HIB REG. (Schneider 537; Farey 560; Bull EGC 477; MCE 225; S.3574). Lightly toned with some red colour, a little flecking and a few hairlines, has been slabbed and graded by PCGS as MS64, the second finest currently graded.
PCGS Certification 618046.64/49602403 - as of July 2026 we note that PCGS have graded 20 examples of this date and this is the second finest graded with only a 64+ finer. For comparison NGC have graded 86 examples of this date plus four overdates with only one coin graded as 64 and one also finer as 64+.
The Mint output of gold in 1713 was £584,597 which was more than quadruple the year, before but dwarfed by the year of 1714 straight after where production more than doubled this figure. This was all under the tenure-ship of Sir Isaac Newton as the Master-Worker of the Mint.
