Post-Union crowned cruciform shields, sceptres in angles, garter star at centre, date either side of top crown, MAG. BRI. FR. ET. HIB REG. (MCE 220; S.3572). Raised die flaw in hair otherwise with an attractive red tone, has been slabbed and graded by PCGS as AU58, we note currently across both services that only eight examples of the 1709 Guinea have been graded of which only one is finer than this piece.

The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Anne by the Grace of God," and abbreviated on the reverse as "Queen of Great Britain, France and Ireland."

The annual gold outputs of Queen Anne's reign are dwarfed by the largest outputs of 1713 and 1714 where over a million pounds worth of gold was coined per year. The calendar year for 1709 shows an output of only 10% of these highest output years at a mere £109,826 worth of gold coined.
