Kingdom of Macedon, Alexander III, The Great (336-323 B.C.), Silver Tetradrachm. Mint of Magnesia ad Maeandrum, struck c. 200-196 B.C. Head of young Herakles facing right, wearing a lion's skin headdress, rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY, Zeus seated left, holding an eagle and a sceptre, a monogram above a horse's head facing right on left, maeander pattern in exergue, 17.00g., 12h (Price -, cf. 2049-2050 for control marks; cf. Triton XVII, 2014, lot 297 (these dies)). With an attractive reverse, some residual lustre, extremely fine, a rare variety.
