Aethelred II (978-1016), silver Penny, last small cross type (c.1009-17), Lydford Mint, Moneyer Godric, diademed and draped bust left within linear circle, Latin legend surrounding, +ÆÐELRÆD REX ANGLI, rev. small cross pattee at centre, linear circle with legend surrounding, +GODRIC ON LYDANFO:, weight 0.95g (N.777; S.1154). Toned with a slight crease, a couple of peck marks on either side, some die flaws in legend evident otherwise, about very fine and with a nice full reading of the Mint name, rare.
The legends translate as "Aethelred, King of the English" and "Godric of Lydford."
