Aethelred II (978-1016), silver Penny, helmet type, London Mint, Moneyer Edwine, armoured bust in helmet left, legend commences lower left with toothed border surrounding, +EÐELRED REX ANG, rev. pellet at centre of long voided cross with tri-crescent terminals, angles with tri-pellet topped piles, two angles with extra raised pellet, +ED PIN OLVN DENE last two letters ligatured, weight 1.24g (N.775; S.1152). Lightly toned with a pleasing portrait, almost extremely fine.
The Latin legends translate as "Aethelred King of the English" on obverse and "Edwine of London" on the reverse with a nice full reading of the Capital City.
