Aethelred II Penny Lincoln, last small cross type

Aethelred II (978-1016), silver Penny, last small cross type (c.1009-17), Lincoln Mint, Moneyer Osferth, diademed and draped bust left within linear circle, Latin legend surrounding, +ÆÐELRÆD REX ANG, rev. small cross pattee at centre, linear circle with legend surrounding, +OSFERÐ NO LINCOL, weight 1.43g (N.777; S.1154). Toned with peck marks both sides and slight perforation, more pecks on reverse, otherwise a bold very fine.

The legends translate as "Aethelred, King of the English" and "Osferth of Lincoln." Interestingly the word ON is transposed as NO.
