19th Century Token, struck in silver, Northumberland, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Shilling, 1811, commerce personified seated on bales, holding cornucopia and spear, sea beyond with ship sailing right, W on ground below for engraver, date at bottom, legend and outer border of dots surrounding both sides, NORTHUMBERLAND & DURHAM 12D. TOKEN, spear point between N and D of legend, rev. arms of Newcastle, .PAYABLE BY IOHN ROBERTSON. In upper half, NEWCASTLE ON TYNE in lower half, edge, grained, weight 4.16g (Davis 11; Withers 10-13). Toned almost very fine.
