17th Century Token, London, Westminster, St. Martin's Lane, Thomas Armitage, Farthing, undated, rampant lion, legend surrounding, star at top each side, *THO. ARMITAGE. IN., lozenge stops, rev. .A. over T.I, beaded circles and legend surrounding, *ST :MARTINS. LANE, weight 0.90g (Boyne 2133; BW 2664). One large chip probably for a miscut flan as also a little off-centre, toned a bold fine.
The Hearth Tax records for 1666 show a Thomas Armitage paying tax on 8 hearths (typical large number for a tavern) on the east side of St Martins Lane.
