17th Century Token, Yorkshire, Doncaster, Benjamin Marshall, Farthing, undated, robed Angel, legend and outer toothed border surrounding, pierced cinquefoil at top both sides, BENIAMIN. MARSHALL. IN, rev. *M* over B E over pierced cinquefoil stop, beaded circles and legend surrounding, DONCASTER. HIS. HALFEPENY, weight 1.24g (Boyne 65; BW 77). Toned almost very fine with a decent angel.

According to Boyne Benjamin Marshall kept the Angel Inn and was Mayor of Doncaster in 1669 but died in his term of office. He was the son of Thomas Marshall and grandson of Miles Marshall of Lincolnshire. Boyne remarks the Angel Inn since pulled down as its posting business was ruined by the coming of the railways.
