Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1853, second young filleted head left, W.W. incuse on truncation for engraver William Wyon, date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, laurel wreath surrounding, emblems below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:, doubled M in legend (Bentley 69; Hill 36F R2; Bull EGC 1109 R2; M.C.E. 514; S.3852D). Toned, with some hairlines, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as MS62 and rare.

NGC Certification 6674823-008 with Hammersley Collection label - currently the joint third finest graded at NGC.

Calendar year mintage 10,597,993.

Only a smaller proportion of the calendar year mintage would have the newly introduced for this year WW incuse obverse, with the majority having the WW raised.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse "Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith."
