Victoria 1881H Halfpenny

Victoria (1837-1901), bronze Halfpenny, 1881 H, struck by the Heaton Mint of Birmingham, "bun" type laureate and draped bust left, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA D: G: BRITT: REG: F: D: rev. Britannia seated right on rock with trident and shield, lighthouse to left with four windows, ship to right, H below date in exergue, denomination in words and toothed border surrounding, weight 5.73g (Fr.344 dies 16+Q; S.3957). Dusky patchy tone with much lustre, otherwise good extremely fine, practically as struck.

The Latin legend on obverse translates as "Victoria, by the grace of God, Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."

Provenance:

Ex Cheshire Collection, Goldberg Auction 31, 1st June 2005, lot 3149pt. when slabbed and graded as NGC MS64 RB.
