Victoria 1838 Proof Groat, plain edge

Victoria (1837-1901), silver Proof Groat, 1838, young filleted head left, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA D: G: BRITANNIAR: REGINA F: D: rev. struck en medaille, Britannia seated right with trident and shield, date in exergue, FOUR PENCE legend surrounding, edge plain, weight 1.89g (Bull 3321; ESC 1931 R4; Davies 1201; S.3913). Toned, handling marks both sides, a few light digs, larger dig under ear, otherwise about very fine and extremely rare.

The Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the grace of God, Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
