Scotland, Alexander III Second Coinage Penny
Scotland, Alexander III (1249-86), silver long cross Penny, second coinage (c.1280-86), type Ma, crowned head and sceptre left, composite crown, within beaded inner circle, legend and outer beaded circle surrounding, +ALEXANDER DEI GRA, letter Rs have wedge tails, rev. long cross pattée, pierced mullet of six points in each angle, beaded circles and legend surrounding, REX SCO TOR VM+, weight 1.41g (Burns 74 fig.203; S.5053). Toned, some ghosting of reverse cross onto obverse, otherwise good very fine.
The legend translates as "Alexander by the grace of God," on the obverse and "King of the Scottish" on the reverse.
