James I (1603-1625), gold Rose Ryal of Thirty Shillings, Second coinage (1604-1619), King in robes seated facing on throne within tressure, holding orb and sceptre, portcullis below, initial mark tower (1612-13), IACOBVS. D; G; MAG; BRIT; FRAN; ET HIBER; REX., pellet and contraction mark stops,rev.quartered shield upon large rose, within beaded circle, .A. DNO. FACTVM. EST. ISTVD. ET. EST. MIRAB. IN. OCV'. NRIS., pellet stops, 13.71g (SCH 10; Stewartby C/j; N 2079; S.2613).Toned, well struck some light double striking to obverse which seems to be struck from a lightly rusted die, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as MS61, the finest graded of this mint mark, and a superior quality piece to that in the Schneider collection.

NGC Certification 2125766-049 - finest graded at NGC for mint mark tower as of August 2023.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "James by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland" and on the reverse as "This is the Lord's doing and it is marvellous in our eyes" a Psalm from the Bible, which should read in full "A Domino Factum Est Istud Et Est Mirabile In Oculis Nostris".

Such large gold coins were struck in 23 and a third carat "fine" gold.

The total gold output of fine gold for this mint mark of tower from 1st April 1612 until 31st March 1613 totalled only £3,094 which would also include fine gold Angels.
