George VI 1937 gold proof Set (slabbed) with case

George VI (1936-52), gold proof Set of four coins, 1937, Coronation year, gold Five Pounds, Two Pounds, Sovereign and Half-Sovereign, all with bare head of King left, HP raised below for designer Humphrey Paget, legend and outer border surrounding, GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP:, rev. St George and dragon right, date in exergue, B.P. to upper right of exergue, all with plain edges, housed in original Royal Mint case with gold block crest and lettering (S.PS15). All coins toned and lightly hairlined, the Five Pounds with scratch from horse neck to rim and a shorter one from dragon claws to rim, all have been graded and slabbed by NGC, £5=details due to "scratched", £2=PF62, Sovereign=PF63, Half-Sovereign=PF62+.

NGC Certification 6029604-001, 002, 003, 004, all consecutively numbered.

Mintage 5,501 sets.

The Latin legend on the obverse translates as "George the Sixth, by the grace of God, King of all the Britons, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India."

These plain edge Proof coins were produced to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI on the 12th May 1937, with a mintage of 5,501 pieces, they were technically patterns as they did not have milled edges.
