George III 1770 silver Fourpence, NGC AU58 - second finest graded
George III (1760-1820),silver Fourpence, 1770, young laureate and draped bust right, legend surrounds, GEORGIVS. III. DEI. GRATIA.,rev.crowned mark of value, date either side of crown, legend reads .MAG. BRI. FR. ET. HIB. REX., weight 2.03g (Bull.2247 R3; ESC.1909; Robinson p.160:249; S.3750).Toned with underlying brilliance, recorded as extremely rare in English Silver Coinage, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as AU58.
NGC Certification 8220388-005 - currently the second finest graded at NGC.
The Latin legends translates on obverse as "George III by the Grace of God," and on reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland."
The 1770 Fourpence, Threepence and Penny are the only small silver coins of this date there being no maundy set available.
