Edward the Confessor Penny York, trefoil quadrilateral type
Edward the Confessor (1042-66), silver Penny, trefoil quadrilateral type (1046-48), York Mint, Moneyer Saefhugel, diademed bust left with sceptre, bust to bottom of coin, Latin legend commences at top with toothed border surrounding, +EAPR: REX, rev. pellet at centre of quadrilateral ornament with three pellets at each apex over short voided cross, all within linear circle, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, +SÆFPHEL ON EOFR, weight 1.13g (N.817; S.1174). Toned, a little weak in one part of legend both sides, otherwise good very fine.
The Latin legends translate as "Edward King" on obverse and "Saefhugel of York" on the reverse.
