The Tudor crown no longer exists, as it was melted down on the orders of Oliver Cromwell after the abolition of the monarchy in 1649, but the King chose this crown for his crowned portrait. This portrait will only be used for coins celebrating the Coronation and for other major Commemorative landmarks in the Kings reign. St Edward's Crown is traditionally used at Royal coronations since it was made for the coronation of Charles II in 1661.
