Edward the Black Prince, Prince of Aquitaine (1362-72), gold Pavillon d'Or or Noble Guyennois a la rose, La Rochelle Mint, first type (c.1362), rosette at centre and lis in first quarter of reverse, standing figure of Black Prince with sword and pointing finger, four ostrich feathers around, all within Gothic portico, two lions at feet, legend with quatrefoil stops and linear circles surrounding, chevron style As and retrograde Ss, ED** PO** GIT** REG** A nGL** PnPS** AQVI, rev. rosette in central compartment of ornate cross with acorn terminals within quatrefoil over cross quernee, large trefoils in spandrels, legend with pellet centre cinquefoil stops and beaded circles surrounding, P in legend with extra loop before upright, +DnS** AIVTO**Z** PTECTO** mE**Z** IIPO** SPAIT** COR** mEVm** R, letter R for La Rochelle, weight 5.35g (Schneider 45; Elias 158; AGC 157A R2 dies 4/p; S.8123). Toned, good very fine and very rare.

The abbreviated Latin legend on the obverse should read fully "Edwardvs Primo Genitvs Regis Anglie Princeps Aqvitainie" and translates as "Edward, first born of the King of England, Prince of Aquitaine" and on the reverse "Dominus Adjutor Et Protector Meum Et In Ipso Speravit Cor Mevm" which translates as "The Lord is my strength and my shield, and my heart hath trusted him".
