Aethelred II (978-1016), silver long cross Penny (c.997-1003), Leicester Mint, Moneyer Thurulf, draped bust left of unusual style, Latin style legend and beaded outer border surrounding both sides, legend commences lower left, +ÆÐELRED REX ANGLO, rev. long voided cross with tri-crescent ends, +ÐV RVF MO L IHER, weight 1.38g (N.774; S.1151). Lightly toned, a couple of peck marks each side, obverse of unusual style with off-set bust, rare.
The legends translate as "Aethelred, King of the English" and "Thurulf of Leicester."
