George VI (1936-52), gold Proof Five Pounds, 1937, bare head left, initials HP below neck for Humphrey Paget, GEORGIVS VI D:G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP: rev. St George and dragon right, date in exergue, B.P. to upper right of exergue, edge plain (L&S 1; WR 435; S.4074). A few light marks within the toning, otherwise as struck, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as PF63 Cameo, becoming rare in the UK market.

These plain edge Proof gold Five Pounds were produced to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI on the 12th May 1937 as part of gold Proof sets, with a mintage of 5,501 pieces, they were technically patterns as they did not have a milled edge like earlier gold Five Pounds of other reigns.
