Elizabeth II 1954 Proof Halfpenny

Elizabeth II (1952-), Proof bronze Halfpenny, 1954, V.I.P. issue, young laureate head right, legend and beaded border surrounding, +ELIZABETH.II. DEI. GRATIA. REGINA. F:D: rev. ship in full sail left, raised HP to right, denomination above, date below, toothed border around rim (Freeman 467; Peck 2509; S.4158). Lightly toned over full proof lustre, small spot behind ribbon ties, otherwise as struck and very rare.

The Proof coins of 1954 are all extremely rare and were only issued for very important purposes (hence V.I.P. issue) for giving to dignitaries or for foundation stone sets. It is generally assumed that no more than 10 to 15 examples of such VIP coins would have been issued but mintage figures are unknown.
