Eadmund portrait Penny, Norwich

Eadmund (939-946), silver Penny, portrait type, East Anglian style, Norwich Mint, Moneyer Rota, crowned and draped bust right to bottom of coin, linear inner circle and legend around, toothed border around rim both sides, legend commences lower left, +EADMVND REX, rev. small cross pattee, linear inner circle and legend around, +ROTA MONEAVE ÐNOI-X, AV ligatured, weight 1.45g (N.698; S.1107). Toned with a very attractive portrait, of East Anglian style and most likely a Norwich mint reading, very rare thus.

North records a Moneyer Hrodgar at Norwich and as the legend is jumbled, ROTA could be some sort of abbreviated form of Hrodgar. North also records a "Woth" without a mint name, so one of these could be Rota. The coin is very rare especially as a nice portrait piece of this King of all England.
