Charles II (1660-85), gold Unite, second issue with mark of value behind laureate and draped bust left, initial mark crown, CAROLVS. II. D. G. MAG. BRIT. FRAN. ET. HIB. REX, outer beaded border both sides, rev. crowned quartered oval shield of arms, C to left, R to right, .FLORENT. CONCORDIA, REGNA., 9.04g (Schneider class II, obverse 3, reverse -, Schneider Collection 393; N.2754; S.3304). With pleasing red tone, some light hairlines, good fine to almost very fine / very fine, the reverse die was not known to Schneider when he wrote his article about these coins c.1969.

These 22 carat gold Twenty Shilling pieces were the last hammered gold coins produced before the total adoption of milled machinery. The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland"; and on the reverse "Through concord Kingdoms flourish."
