Charles I (1625-49), gold Crown, Tower Mint, initial mark negro's head (1626-27), group B, second crowned bust in ruff left, value behind, beaded circles and legend surrounding, CAROLVS D' G' MAG' BR' FR' ET. HI. REX, rev. crowned quartered flat topped shield of arms, CVLTORES SVI DEVS PROTEG:, 2.18g. (cf.Schneider 227; Brooker 190; N.2181; S.2711). A little double struck and weak in parts both sides, otherwise very fine and rare.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on obverse "Charles by the grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland," and on the reverse "God protects his worshippers." These gold coins are struck in 22 carat "crown" gold.
